As we open up 2014, there’s temptation to look forward to the year in movies that await us.  For me, 2013 was a bit underwhelming, especially during the summer, so here’s hoping that 2014’s slate of films picks up the slack a little.  Here’s this week’s 5 For Friday: 5 Most Anticipated Films of 2014

5. Godzilla

Release Date: May 16

If it turns out to be a flop, then it’s simply a case of “Fool me twice, shame on me.”  With a top-notch cast that includes Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, and Ken Watanabe, the new Godzilla will hopefully fall in line with recent films such as Pacific Rim and Super 8 rather than the masterful disaster from 1998.

4. Gone Girl

Release Date: October 3

I haven’t read the best-selling novel by Gillian Flynn, but in the hands of director David Fincher, it sounds like it has the makings…

Viva Geek

We can see the future! Well, in the case of X-men: Days of Futures past we can read parts of the script. Script materials are rumored to have been leaked describing the opening scene of the film. Read below but please be warned…

**SPOILER ALERT!**

Sentinel01

According to a script obtained by  Radar.com the film opens in futuristic Moscow, where buildings are crumbling in smoking ruins.

Series newcomer Booboo Stewart gets the first line of ominous dialog as James “Warpath” Proudstar: “They’re here,” he tells Blink, played by another newbie, Chinese actress Bingbing Fan.

Suddenly, the duo are whisked though a portal to “a vast bomb shelter under the Kremlin,” the script explains. “Shelves are full of food, the floor full of bunks, all inhabited by a band of mutant refugees,” and there’s a shrine to fallen mutants in a distant corner.

As Blink and Warpath emerge in the room Blink tells…

Why We All Want to be Like Wolverine   Leave a comment

Have a Few Words

Since Bryan Singer’s film, X-Men starring Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan and Femke Janssen was released in 2000, the Wolverine has arguably been the world’s most recognizable and intriguing super-hero. And why not? The Wolverine has been the central figure in all three of the X-Men films and has had enough power at the box office to bring in nearly one billion dollars[1]. That doesn’t include his X-Men: Origins film, his appearance in X-Men: First Class or 2013’s The Wolverine.

So, why the attraction? Why is Wolverine such a magnetic figure? It’s not hard to see. First, for his fans and fans of comic books in general, having the powers of Wolverine would be insanely cool right? Retractable, indestructible claws, instant healing, heightened sense of sight and smell, and super-human strength? Yes, please. This is the stuff that boys’ dreams are made of (and…

X-Men Factions: The Xavier Academy   Leave a comment

Doc Steve's Heroic Underground

The Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters was founded in 1963 as by Dr. Brian Xavier, noted nuclear scientist and founding member of the Future Foundation think-tank.  Located in Westchester County, the purpose of the Academy was help facilitate the next generation of scientists and great thinkers though the highest standards of education.  To that end, the Academy had a generous scholership program, allowing the brightest minds to attend the school irregardless of their income or social status.  Despite its lofty goals, the Xavier School never had the prestige of some of the older schools in New York and New England.

When Brian Xavier died in 1975, his son Dr. Charles Xavier became headmaster of the school.  It was then that the name of the school was changed to the Xavier Academy of Higher Learning.  Due to poor attendance, the school was shut down in early 1992.

In late 2012, the school quietly reopened its doors with Xavier once again its headmaster.  He reformed…

Casting News For The Fantastic Four And Ant-Man   Leave a comment

Comic Thought

The news has come out that multiple actors and actresses have been screening for upcoming films based on Marvel properties, specifically Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man and the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot.

Actress Evangeline Lilly, best known for her work on Lost and more recently in last year’s Hobbit sequel, has been in talks to join Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas in the upcoming Ant-Man film. It was revealed a few months back that Rudd would be playing the title character (later revealed to be the second Ant-Man Scott Lang) and Douglas joined on shortly afterwards as the original Ant-Man Hank Pym, but a female lead had yet to be cast. Though Lilly is still just in talks right now, a lot of people are speculating that she may end up playing Janet van Dyne, love interest of Ant-Man and who would later become known as The Wasp.

Also in talks right…

Happiness Starts Here

Today I am totally embracing the art of a lazy Saturday and it actually feels really good. I didn’t go to the gym this morning to run, and I’m not planning on doing any power yoga, and I’m okay with that. Yesterday morning my body felt tired even doing yoga so I’m taking it as a sign to take a break. That way tomorrow I’ll be ready to dive back in, feeling rested and happy. That being said, I feel like my appetite is on fire today, so I’m just going with it and eating possibly every hour. If I want to run a marathon I’m going to have to fuel for it too!!

Also, I know I am unbelievably late in recognizing how amazing this TV show is, but can I just say, IT’S AMAZING. Lena Dunham’s creation is so unlike anything I’ve seen on TV…

1,500 Words or Less

Hello out there! Welcome to my short story blog spot. I am, as stated on my about page, an aspiring writer. I live in a small, two bedroom apartment, above a book store. My goal is to write entertaining short stories for readers consideration.

Comic Con

My first love has always been science fiction and fantasy. I can remember watching the “Twilight Zone” when i was a kid and marveling at how Rod Serling could spin a tale in thirty minutes so fascinating that it would keep me thinking for days. I’m not saying that my stories compare. I can only dream. However my great hope is to write short scifi fantasy stories half as well. The only way I can do that is to practice and get my work out there. That is the purpose of this blog. I hope to write and publish a short story (1,500 words or less) …
